Section D — Team Racing Rules

Team races shall be sailed under The Racing Rules of Sailing as changed by this appendix.

D1.3

Penalties

  • (a) Rule 44.1 is changed to:
    A boat may take a One-Turn Penalty when she may have broken one or more rules of Part 2, or rule 31 or 42, in an incident while racing. However, she or her team may be further penalized under rule D2.3 or D3.3 if the incident caused injury or damage, or despite taking a penalty her team has gained an advantage.
  • (b) When a boat clearly indicates that she will take a penalty under rule 44.1, she shall take that penalty.
  • (c) A boat may take a penalty by retiring and informing the race committee or an umpire.
  • (d) There shall be no penalty for breaking a rule of Part 2 when the incident is between boats on the same team and there is no contact.

Racing

A boat is racing from her preparatory signal until she finishes and clears the finishing line and marks or retires, or until the race committee signals a general recall, postponement or abandonment.

Rule
  • (a) The rules in this book, including the Definitions, Race Signals, Introduction, preambles and the rules of relevant appendices, but not the Basic Principles or titles;
  • (b) World Sailing Regulations that have been designated by World Sailing as having the status of a rule and are published on the World Sailing website;
  • (c) the prescriptions of the national authority, unless they are changed by the notice of race or sailing instructions in compliance with the national authority’s prescription, if any, to rule 88.2;
  • (d) the class rules (for a boat racing under a handicap or rating system, the rules of that system are ‘class rules’);
  • (e) the notice of race;
  • (f) the sailing instructions; and
  • (g) any other documents that govern the event.
